The Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage is expanding its successful First Nations Australians Planning Program and is seeking a passionate Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander to join our team in the Pilbara region.
The program aims to attract, recruit and develop Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people into land use planning roles within the Department and embed knowledge of Country within WA’s land use planning system.
The successful candidate will work directly with First Nations communities, Prescribed Body Corporates and local services.
They will help shape economic development opportunities, community infrastructure, development plans and governance strategies that reflect long-term goals for sustainability, cultural integrity and economic independence.
They will also collaborate and provide advice to the Department, the Western Australian Planning Commission, other State Government agencies and local governments to inform decision making and improve planning processes and policies.
The role is pivotal in building effective partnerships, collaborating and consulting with Government, agencies, community service providers and residents in regional and remote WA.
With two positions already based in the Kimberley region and one in the Mid West, we are now extending the program to the Pilbara region, with the position based in the Department’s Karratha office serving the Pilbara’s First Nations stakeholders.
We are looking to grow the program across the State. Suitable applicants with strong cultural knowledge, who can embed knowledge of Country into WA’s land use planning system, will be placed in a pool from which appointments may be made for similar vacancies for a period of 24 months.
