Looking ahead at the
Ashburton Gold Project
Yinhawangka Traditional Owners and YAC heritage and environmental advisers spent time on Country with Kalamazoo Resources in August, visiting the Ashburton Gold Project and discussing the future of the project.
The visit included the old Mount Olympus mine and provided an opportunity for Yinhawangka representatives to hear about Kalamazoo’s future plans for the project and inspect areas of previous mining.
It also created an opportunity to discuss how Yinhawangka cultural heritage and environmental values can be considered as the project progresses.
What was discussed?
An important part of the visit was discussing how Yinhawangka People can be involved early in decision-making about the future of the project.
Looking ahead
Heritage surveys and future discussions
YAC and Kalamazoo are planning heritage surveys in 2027, including consideration of culturally significant places such as Turee Creek and other important water places within the broader area.
YAC is also in the early stages of negotiating a Mining Agreement with Kalamazoo Resources.
