A busy Sunday at Paraburdoo Primary School saw the new outdoor classroom and yarning circle begin to take shape.
Rocks, logs and river sand for the project were donated by Rio Tinto, with the location carefully selected to take advantage of the shade provided by a large established tree within the school grounds.
The Yinhawangka Rangers supported the development of the space, with further work planned to complete the area using smaller river rocks between the concrete and boulders.
Once complete, the outdoor classroom will provide a space where Yinhawangka community members can sit with students, creating further opportunities to share cultural knowledge and strengthen connections between generations.
The yarning circle forms part of a broader ‘Dry Riverbed’ project being developed by Paraburdoo Primary School and the Ranger team, creating a Yinhawangka-inspired pathway beginning at the kindergarten and winding through the school grounds.
The project also supports an ongoing relationship between the Rangers and the school, with dedicated time for the Ranger team to engage with students during their swings in Paraburdoo.
It is wonderful to see projects like this creating opportunities for Yinhawangka People while strengthening connections with the wider Paraburdoo community.
