Between 1–5 June 2026, a delegation from Yinhawangka Aboriginal Corporation (YAC), including the CEO, Chair, Living Cultures Program Manager and several YAC Board members, attended the AIATSIS Summit 2026.
Throughout the week, delegates participated in panel sessions and met with key stakeholders, sector specialists and cultural leaders from across Australia.
The Living Cultures Program Manager also held several important meetings with experts in the field, including Dr Bianca Beetson, Executive Director, First Nations at the Queensland Museum.
A key outcome of the Summit was a meeting with the Director of Collections at AIATSIS, attended by the YAC CEO, Chair and Board members. During the meeting, it was agreed that a YAC delegation would visit the AIATSIS collection in Canberra later in 2026 to further explore opportunities to improve access to cultural materials relating to Yinhawangka heritage.
This engagement represents an important step forward in strengthening relationships and improving access to cultural materials for the Yinhawangka community.
