Students, staff, Elders and community members gathered at Paraburdoo Primary School during NAIDOC Week to officially open the school’s new Outdoor Classroom and Dry River Bed.
The ceremony began with a heartfelt Welcome to Country by Yinhawangka Ranger Ronald Chubby, setting the tone for a celebration of culture, learning and community.
Hosted by Paraburdoo Primary School, the official opening marked the completion of a project made possible through collaboration between the Yinhawangka Ranger Team, Yinhawangka Aboriginal Corporation, Paraburdoo Primary School, Rio Tinto and other project partners.
Featuring donated rocks, logs and river sand, the Outdoor Classroom forms part of the school’s broader Dry River Bed Project. More than just an outdoor learning space, it has been designed as a place where students can connect with Yinhawangka culture through storytelling, language, shared experiences and learning on Country.
Following the official opening, students, teachers and community members came together to enjoy a shared lunch, celebrating the beginning of what will become an important place for cultural learning and connection.
