Across May, Yinhawangka members participated in a series of Recording Workshops designed to build practical media skills and support the preservation of stories, knowledge and lived experiences for future generations.
Held in South Hedland, Paraburdoo and Karratha, the hands-on workshops introduced participants to the fundamentals of recording high-quality video and audio using professional cameras, microphones and mobile devices.
Participants learned practical techniques for capturing clear audio, filming quality footage and using recording equipment to help bring stories to life. These skills can be used to document family histories, community events, cultural knowledge and personal projects, helping ensure important stories can be shared and preserved for years to come.
The workshops form part of YAC’s broader commitment to supporting Yinhawangka People to record, preserve and celebrate Yinhawangka stories and knowledge. By building these skills within the community, members are supported to become storytellers, record keepers and contributors to future generations’ understanding of Yinhawangka culture and history.
