The Living Cultures Program is bringing Yinhawangka Elders, knowledge holders, families and community members together to share stories, knowledge, language, culture and connections to Country with future generations.
Storytelling Sessions Coordinator
The Living Cultures Program is inviting Yinhawangka community members to express their interest in supporting the coordination of the Yinhawangka Storytelling Sessions.
The Living Cultures Program is seeking one coordinator from each relevant Yinhawangka apical family group to support communication, coordination and participation in the storytelling sessions.
The coordinator will work alongside the Living Cultures Project Coordinator and Yinhawangka community representatives to help ensure sessions are organised in a respectful, culturally appropriate and community-led way.
What will the coordinator do?
- Help identify and connect with appropriate storytellers, Elders and knowledge holders within family and community networks.
- Communicate with Elders, storytellers, families and community members involved in the sessions.
- Support the planning and coordination of storytelling sessions in consultation with the Living Cultures Project Coordinator.
- Help communicate information about session arrangements, timing and participation to relevant family and community members.
- Provide coordination updates and relevant information to the Living Cultures Project Coordinator.
- Work respectfully with YAC, the Living Cultures team and relevant Yinhawangka community representatives.
- Support the practical organisation of approved storytelling materials, including photographs, audio, video and written materials where appropriate.
- Support appropriate cultural protocols, permissions and consent processes for stories and cultural materials shared through the project.
Who We're Looking For
We welcome Expressions of Interest from Yinhawangka community members who:
- Have a strong connection to Yinhawangka Country, community, culture and/or language.
- Have knowledge of Yinhawangka stories, history, culture and/or family connections.
- Have established relationships with Elders, families and community members.
- Understand and respect Yinhawangka cultural protocols, cultural authority and the importance of appropriate permission and consent.
- Have good communication and organisational skills.
- Are comfortable working with community members, the Living Cultures team and other project participants.
- Are reliable and able to support agreed activities and arrangements.
How To Express Your Interest
Interested Yinhawangka community members are invited to provide a short response addressing:
- Your connection to Yinhawangka community, Country, culture and/or language.
- Your connection to your family group and community networks.
- Your experience working with Elders, families, community members, storytelling or cultural activities.
- Why you are interested in supporting the Yinhawangka Storytelling Sessions.
- Any relevant skills, knowledge or experience you believe would support you in the role.
- Any other information you would like the Living Cultures Program to consider.
A formal résumé is not required, although you are welcome to provide one if you wish.
About The Engagement
The successful applicant will be engaged by the Living Cultures Program as a casual contractor to provide coordination services associated with the Yinhawangka Storytelling Sessions.
The specific scope of work, activities, expected time commitment, contractor fees and other arrangements will be discussed and agreed with the successful applicant before the engagement commences.
Cultural Protocols & Community Authority
The Living Cultures Program recognises the importance of Yinhawangka cultural authority, Elders, knowledge holders, storytellers, families and community protocols.
The storytelling sessions will be developed and delivered in consultation with relevant Yinhawangka community members and with respect for cultural protocols.
Stories, language, cultural knowledge, photographs, recordings and other cultural materials will only be collected, recorded, used or shared with appropriate permission and consent.
The role of the coordinator is to support communication and coordination, rather than to speak on behalf of all Yinhawangka people or make decisions about cultural knowledge on behalf of the wider community.

Interested In Sharing A Story?
The Living Cultures Program also welcomes Expressions of Interest from Yinhawangka Elders, knowledge holders, community leaders and community members interested in participating in the monthly storytelling sessions.
About The Program
These monthly storytelling sessions celebrate and share Yinhawangka culture through stories for children.
Participants are invited to share traditional family stories, cultural knowledge and oral histories that are appropriate for children and can be shared with other Yinhawangka families and the wider Paraburdoo community.
Stories should reflect Yinhawangka culture, traditions, values and connections to Country, while being engaging and suitable for young audiences.

Who Can Participate?
The Living Cultures Program welcomes Expressions of Interest from:
- Yinhawangka Elders
- Knowledge holders
- Community leaders
- Yinhawangka community members
Support Provided
The Living Cultures Program will provide support for each selected storyteller, including:
- Travel arrangements
- Accommodation
- A daily fee for one storyteller at each session
Storytelling Ideas
Participants are invited to share stories that are suitable for children and reflect Yinhawangka culture, values and connection to Country.
This may include traditional family stories, cultural knowledge, oral histories or other stories that support children to learn about Yinhawangka culture in an engaging and appropriate way.
